| Bio | Michael Rutland first worked in Bhutan in 1970, when he helped set up the Ugyen Wangchuk Academy in Paro, and there taught sciences and mathematics to the present King. In 1987 he worked for the United Nations in Bhutan, advising on technical and vocational education. He has also advised UNHCR on the Bhutan 'refugee' problem. Since his first stay he has been a regular visitor to Bhutan, and in 1992 founded the Bhutan Society of the United Kingdom, of which he is Hon. Secretary and Vice-Chairman. |
