| Bio | Dr Peter Carey is Laithwaite Fellow and Tutor in Modern History at Trinity College, Oxford (in post, 1979 to present), specialising in the history and politics of Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Indonesia, East Timor and Burma. He has served as Executive Director of the Asian Studies Centre at St. Antony's College (1985-88). His publications include works on the history and contemporary politics of Indonesia, East Timor and Burma, including The British in Java, 1811-16. A Javanese Account (Oxford University Press for the British Academy, 1992), East Timor at the Crossroads. The Forging of a Nation (Cassell, 1995), and Burma. The Challenge of Change in a Divided Society (Macmillan, 1997). |
