
A sacred mountain to Buddhist, Hindu, Jain and Bon-po, pilgrims flocked from across Asia to Mount Kailas. Sited near the sources of the Indus, Sutlej, and Brahmaputra rivers, pundits used pilgrimage as a cover for its exploration during the Great Game. Today pilgrims still flock to the western extreme of the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, China.
