Golden Eagle, Kyrgyzstan

In addition to images of people, landscapes and sites of archaeological or architectural interest, the society’s archive contains a strong pictorial record flora and fauna in Asia, including a number of endangered species. Populations of golden eagles, seen here in Kyrgyzstan, have declined sharply over the course of the 20th century, disappearing entirely from many populated areas.
