Library Rules

Members are particularly requested to observe these Rules carefully, especially those regarding the return of books issued.

Any transgression of the Rules may be dealt with by the Council as the case may require.

  1. The Library is open to members from 10 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 10 am to 1 pm on Friday, except Public Holidays and such other days as the Council may from time to time decide.
  2. Books may be borrowed, with certain exceptions, such as encyclopaedias, works of reference and certain other books which may only be issued with the approval of the Secretary or Librarian.
  3. No books may be retained longer than two months, unless the borrower shall have applied for an extension of the period. In that case an extension of one month may be granted, provided that no application has been made for the book by another member. The return of newly acquired books may be requested by the Secretary or Librarian at any time.
  4. Books may only be taken or sent abroad in special circumstances, with the sanction of the Secretary or Librarian.
  5. The title of every book issued shall be entered in the Library Register. The Borrower shall either sign the entry or send a signed application.
  6. All charges for carriage of books lent from the Library shall be defrayed by the member to whom they are issued. Books returned by post must be protectively wrapped and securely fastened.
  7. Any book shall be considered as lost if not returned within two months after a reminder has been sent, and the borrower shall replace the book or refund it's value.

Where a member is making a long journey to the library, they are advised to first contact the office by telephone to confirm that the library is actually open, and that any specific books that they require are available at the time they wish to visit.
