THE PRESIDENT’S RECEPTION Wednesday 24 November 2010 6.30 until 9.30 pm
The Society’s main social event this year will be an evening Reception, hosted by our President, The Lord Denman, on Wednesday 24 November from 6.30 to 9.30 pm in the first floor Reception Room at 2 Belgrave Square, London SW1. It will commence with a sit-down concert by a quartet from Goodenough College with the programme as follows: Brahms A minor Quartet; Takemitsu* ‘A Way a Lone’ (inspired by Finnegans Wake).
* Toru Takemitsu (1930-1996) was a Japanese composer & writer on aesthetics and music theory. Largely self-taught, he drew from a wide range of influences, including jazz, popular music, avant-garde procedures and traditional Japanese music.
A number of Asian High Commissioners and Ambassadors in London will also be invited. As a courtesy to them, you are requested to arrive in the Reception Room by 6.20 pm, if possible. The concert will start at 6.45pm and last for 45 minutes, following which red and white wine, soft drinks and canapés will be served during the reception. The cost per person will be £27.50. No refunds can be made in respect of cancellations notified after Thursday 18 November.
